These photographs were made in Albuquerque between 1979-81 while I was a graduate student at UNM. The photographs address my love/hate relationship with Albuquerque. The intensity of the light and the space in the Southwest is absolutely spectacular. Albuquerque features a wonky blend of old Hispanic and Modern Highway culture. Because of the luminous quality of the high desert environment, the architecture is breathtaking and at times the views are just plain nutty.
The experience of attending such a fine university with outstanding mentors and scholars including Beaumont Newhall, Betty Hahn, Van Deren Coke and Richard Rudisill was the highlight of my formal education. These photographs are a select group of my graduate MFA exhibit.
