These photographs were made in the Sacramento River Delta region.  The definition of Slough includes a backwater and bog area, but can also mean a state of moral degradation and spiritual dejection.  The Delta is being subjected to enormous political pressure to allow the pumping of this great resource to the politicos in Southern California.  So while I am fascinated with the beauty of these Sloughs, the photographs bring with them a deep melancholy about the threats to our environment by our over population.
